BECAUSE A TATTOO IS PERMANENT, THE FIRST TWO WEEKS ARE THE MOST IMPORTANT.
After completing your tattoo, the artist applies a self-adhesive protective film. Below you will find an explanation of what the film does, how to remove it and how to care for your tattoo.
Self-adhesive tattoo protective film
A breathable, self-adhesive film that maintains a moist environment over the tattooed area.
A waterproof, antibacterial protective layer that guards against dirt, sources of infection and friction from clothing.
LEAVE THE PROTECTIVE FILM ON FOR 24–36 HOURS.
It is normal for fluid (lymph and ink) to collect beneath the film. If fluid leaks from the edge, blot it with a clean paper towel. If the film starts peeling back to the edges of the tattoo, remove it, as bacteria may grow underneath.
An allergic reaction to the film's adhesive is rare. Mild redness usually disappears after removing the film and washing the skin with mild liquid soap.
How to remove the protective film
- Before removing the film, wash your hands thoroughly with antibacterial soap.
- The film is best removed under warm running water or in the shower.
- Remove the film slowly and carefully, without pulling it off abruptly.
- Start at a corner or edge, stretching the film towards you rather than peeling it off like adhesive tape.
- After removing it, wash the tattoo with liquid antibacterial soap and warm water, then rinse with cold water for 10–20 seconds.
- Pat dry with a paper towel. Do not use a fabric towel.
- If adhesive remains on the skin, do not rub or scratch it. Apply a little coconut oil or another oil to soften the adhesive, then wash it off gently.
The first 48 hours
DO NOT APPLY ANYTHING TO THE TATTOO.
Wash it with antibacterial soap and warm water two or three times a day.
After two or three days, once the tattoo is dry, you may start applying a thin layer of coconut oil two or three times a day. Wash the tattoo morning and evening throughout the healing period.
The first two weeks
Never touch the tattoo with dirty or unwashed hands.
You may shower, but avoid unnecessary rubbing or touching of the tattoo.
Do not apply alcohol or hydrogen peroxide.
Do not use a sauna or steam room, take baths or go swimming.
Do not exercise, and avoid activities that make you sweat.
Avoid fermented alcoholic drinks (beer, wine, cider and champagne), as well as naturally fermented kvass.
Do not use tanning beds or sunbathe; avoid direct sunlight.
Once the tattoo has healed, always apply sunscreen when spending time in the sun to help prevent fading and preserve the ink. With proper care, your tattoo can remain beautiful for many years.
